Over the years there have been many "toys" that the guys have either bought, enhanced or built to get us around the woods without getting stuck. At least that's what their thinking is. I always refer back to the old say "it's the thought that counts". The main roads are good enough for any vehicle to travel on, it's the roads that go through the blocks and get us deeper in the woods to get to tree stands and cut off dogs that there could be an issue. There are quite a few of us that has 4 wheelers, which is the easiest way to get around on, along with all the 4 wheel trucks and jeeps that is needed. This is our excuse to go muddin' and hunt at the same time. There are times when things don't go as planned and it can be very interesting. Thanksgiving weekend some of the dogs decided to go an area that we are not all that familier with and half the hunting crew went after them in hot pursuit. The road that they ended up on had some water on it and one of the guys suped up Blazer and the "Grey Ghost" started going through one of the holes. The Ghost went first because that is a "bad" truck and next thing Candyapple knows is the water is over his hood. By then Slippers had the Blazer in right behind him. Candyapple can't go know where, so Slippers gets the Blazer around him and is position to pull him out. This is after he opens the door and lets out about 4" of water out of the cab of his truck. The Ghost is back in working order but the Blazer needs a new transmission before Slippers can get it back on the road.
The best story of the trucks happened a few years ago. A few of the guys decided to do a midnight ride to "Burkett Slough". This is probably the worst area in our neck of the woods and about 3 miles from camp. There is only a couple of vehicles that can get through this area without issues. Spot, who built the "Moonlake Hummer" and Cabbagehead were the instigators in this ordeal. They took out the Hummer and Cabbagehead's "Yellow Banana" and of course Cabbagehead gets stuck. Well Spot's there for the rescue and guess who gets stuck also? Yep, Spot and the "Hummer". Knowing that all of us that were back at camp were in bed for the night and not wanting to admit what they did, Cabbagehead decided he would walk back to camp to get the other vehicle that could get them out which was 22's jeep the "Googeewah". He leaves Spot and the other guys at Burkett Slough and off he goes to walk the 3 miles back to camp. It was cold out that night so Spot and the guys build a fire and wait. Cabbagehead gets to camp and gets the Googeewah (which is not quiet) and heads back out. 22 hears the jeep start up but just rolls over and goes back to sleep. Once out there, the guys get the chains and ropes hooked up and figure they would have no problems and be out of this mess in a flash. Wrong, Cabbageheads blows the clutch in the jeep and that now makes 3 vehicles "demobolized" out in the middle of nowhere. So Spot and the guys get comfortable in front of their fire again and off goes Cabbagehead walking back to camp. By now it's about 4 am and so by the time he get's to camp, he decides to wake up Scotty who has the next baddest truck. Scotty becomes a hero that morning and gets to pull out 3 vehicles that are suppose to be unstuckable. By now it's daylight and there were a few pictures taken to show as evidence. I have the album "Our Toys" started so you can see our trucks and toys. Oh, don't think that we can't get our ATV's stuck just as easy, because we can.
