Our kids
There is nothing more enjoyable than being a big part in a childs life. We teach them right from wrong, respect and responsibilityand the love of the great outdoors. In this time of modern technology I see more and more kids live indoors in front of the computer or Xbox instead of enjoying Mother Nature and fresh air. I grew up living in the country, hunting with my dad and my parents would have to call me in at dark and to this day still think that's the best life while growing up. We try to show our kids what life can be outside of house. At camp, we know where our kids are and what they are doing. They look forward to Friday as well as the adults do so they can go to camp. If for some reason the parents can't make it for the weekend, we get a phone call asking if they can get a ride. In the mornings when your getting ready to head out for your stand, you never know if one is going to climb into the truck with you. With that being said, I can say I am very proud of each and everyone one of "my kids". We've seen some grow into fine young men and women with kids of their own and now we get to watch their kids grow up. How honored are we!! Going from diapers to their first date, drivers license, graduation to marriage and you wonder where the time went. This is what keeps the camp going and staying strong and this is what we are all about. Kids can enjoy the most simplest of things and we enjoy watching them being kids. At times we can't tell the kids from the adults :-) which is the way it should be!! We have been there for some of their first kills and this is always a proud moment at camp. Everyone is as proud as the parents are!! This camp could not exsist without the kids. They are what keep us alive and I am very proud of each and everyone of them.
One day last hunting season a few of us met out in the woods to help one of guys put in a new tree stand. While 3 guys went in to put the stand up the rest of us stayed out on the road in case they needed help or needed something brought into them. We had two kids with us that was starting to get bored. Tugboat's son Rowboat (he was 4) decided he wanted some gummy bears out of the truck. Tugboat had his gun out for the chance that a deer would bounce out onto the road, so he laid it down on the hood of the truck and was digging out the gummy bears from inside the truck when all of a sudden out pops a buck. He stood there in the middle of the road about 50 yards from us and just watched us broadside. Of course the rest of us didn't have a gun in our hands and we hollered at Tugboat at the same time he looked up and seen him. All he could do was watch the buck through the windshield of his truck as he was stretched across the seat of his truck, reaching for gummy bears. That was the day that the Gummy Bear Buck got away.
