North American Hunting Club's Deer Camp

Muzzle loader season ends this weekend in TX. We're heading out to try to shoot a spike or mature buck. Probably won't have much luck. Lots of rain in the area. Now the hogs are a different story. I'd love to take one w/a 360 grain .50cal mini ball. Gonna try our luck. Regardless of the outcome, we expect to take advantage of the long MLK Holiday weekend and come home stinky and muddy. Stand by for pics and details. Peace.

Well, we all showed up ready to hunt the final weekend of muzzle loader deer season here in Central Texas. It was pouring rain Friday and nothing was moving. It was still raining Saturday morning and the critters were still bedded down. We decided to make a noon hunt since we figgered they'd be moving around once the sun came up. It had been raining for days. Sure Enough, Joe W. got a shot at a couple of pigs with his new .270. He missed. He had the rifle bore sighted, but not zeroed in. He wanted to do it before the noon hunt, but I told him he'd scare off what may come up at noon if he started blasting up the countryside. He agreed to wait, and then blame me for missing. Too bad. It took him most of a box of ammo to get spot on. It would have taken forever. He just should have waited till the hogs were closer to take the shot. He says it was about a 140yrd shot. He'd have nailed them if they were at 50.

Oh well, we had a great time anyway. Ate some great chow and enjoyed equally great fellowship. Gonna take a few weeks off from hunting and catch up on honey-dos. Planning on a spring turkey hunt in South Texas. Can't wait.
